La Rambla
The well known part of Barcelona to all the visitors and the natives is La Rambla. Ramblas stretches to 1.2 km long in the city with many malls and shops with plenty of attractions and colors. This is also iconic and busy street in central part of Barcelona . This mall is Barric Gotic connects statue of Christopher Columbus at Port Vell with Placa de Catalunya in center. This street has nothing less to make the people visiting go emotional with fun and is hub of Barcelona the landmark in Spain . La Rambla has many short streets in series with different names and hence they are in total plurally called as Las Ramblas.
Las Ramblas ends at the harbor starting from Placa de Catalunya and there are many streets in between the two ends, harbor and Catalunya respectively. Maremagnum constructed in the 1990s has made the continuation of the Ramblas to the harbor through the wooden walkway into Rambla de Mar. If you have nothing to do in Barcelona then walk into Las Ramblas and keep walking down the colorful streets you get all kinds of fun and entertainment. You will be seeing many kinds of shops and the street plays, performances which fill your life, with cafes and restaurants and some international chains of them are present giving the visitor plentiful of selections. La Rambla after all being a busy street runs in rush and full packed during the prime seasons and is a hot place for the pick pocketers which has been a serious issue in the recent times. Name La Rambla has its own meaning in Catalan and Spanish which means ‘intermittent water flow' and the word has been taken from Arabic word Rambla meaning “Sandy Riverbed”. When enjoying the streets down in Ramblas you come across Barri del Raval on the right side, which was familiarly known as Barriochino formerly, red light district in Barcelona city. The area had bad reputation long back and now it is out of that reputation and is normal. Raval is good place for spending the evening pleasantly, having many night bars and small restaurants.
Museu Picasso is found here and is a good thing to visit after entering the city of Picasso , the great artist and Church of Santa Maria del Mar which is in the styles of austere Catalan Gothic. After you are in Barri Gotic not to miss is the afternoon concerts in the Pl. de Sant Josep Oriol. Also the cathedral Pl. de Sant Felip Neri which can be said as the romantic one of the city with fine cloisters. Best places in Ramblas for shopping are Portal de l'Angel and Portaferrissa. The Ramblas may also tire the new comers who no not much about it. There is so much which is difficult to explore in a single day and may end up exhausted.
